The Three Wise Men

Have you ever heard of the famous Three Kings or also known as the The three Wise Men ?

Their names were Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar.

These three men play a very important role in the Christian Christmas tradition. These Magi lived in the East. They were wise and very good astronomers. They studied the stars because they believed that they could give messages about important events.

It was precisely one special night when they saw a very bright star in the sky. This was the announcement of the birth of a special king. They started a long and tough journey on camels across deserts and different lands. They followed the shining star which guided them to Bethlehem, where Baby Jesus was, along with Mary and Joseph.

They bowed down before the child, showing respect and honour.

They each brought a meaningful gift; gold which represented royalty, frankincense, represting holiness and myrrh which represented a symbol of an earthly Human.

Today, in many countries around the world like Spain and Latin America, families celebrate the 6th of January as the «Three Kings’ Day». On this day, children receive gifts from the Kings and have a grandeus family gathering.

In Spain, on the night of the 5th, there are large parades all over the towns and cities of the country.

The tradition of the Three Wise Men teaches us lessons of faith which is symbolized by the shining star, lessons of kindness and generosity which is represented by the gifts and lessons about unity which is represented by the Kings who came from different lands of the East and stayed together in peace and respect.

This annual tradition is a constant reminder that Christmas is not just about receiving presents but about sharing, helping others and meaning well as well as believing in the good things.
